What initially brought me to CrossFit was back in the fall of 2011, my husband Kevin had joined CrossFit and wouldn’t stop talking about it. He really wanted me to give it a try, but I honestly was too intimidated knowing that I had never weight trained, and CrossFit was totally different than anything I had ever done. I was more used to group fitness classes and even working out in my living room by myself. Well, I went to Kevin’s first competition to cheer him on, and I couldn’t believe my eyes! My whole outlook changed after seeing all shapes and sizes, all ages, giving their all and looking like athletes. They inspired me so much that from then on, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.
I’d say my first big accomplishment was doing a pull-up. For some reason, this movement was my nemesis for years, but I worked at it every day I was there and eventually I DID IT!
My biggest advice to anybody considering CrossFit would be to go for it! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain from confidence, becoming an athlete regardless of the scales you may have to take, making new friends, and being a part of a wonderful community.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank the coaches at Pennant from the bottom of my heart for taking such good care of me. After having shoulder surgery 8 weeks ago, these guys haven’t missed a beat with supplying me with a kick butt workout every time I walk through that door. These coaches are top notch!!! So if you’re struggling with an injury, please know that no matter what the workout is, they will supply you with the appropriate workout for you and always work around your injury. The key here is don’t ignore your overall fitness due to an injury.
I have been a part of the CrossFit community for five years now and cannot imagine my life without it. I love my new home here at Pennant, so thank you to all of you for letting me be a part of your family.
